St. Patty's Day Leprachaun Treasure Hunt

This was a great little activity for a little leprechaun fun. I put paper out of the shredder into a plastic shoe box. Then I dumped in some "treasures" that the leprechauns had left behind. I got a little bag of foam St. Patty's Day cutouts from the $1 bin at Target that I threw in there and I had some gold beads and some little plastic letter beads (always try to throw in some "learning" in the fun). The kids then "hunted" for the stuff the leprechauns left. I gave them clothes pins to use to pick the stuff up.

"Learn Your Colors" St. Patty's Day Activity

To do this activity, you will need:
  • paper plates
  • each color of the rainbow streamers (or ribbon, or even colored construction paper would work)
  • glue
  • cotton balls
  • stapler

First, cut the paper plate in half. Have your child glue cotton balls all over the paper plate (this is the cloud). Then, cut each of the colored streamers the same length. I had the kids sit in a circle with their  "cloud" and their streamers. I told them that we had to put the rainbows together in order. I would then say - "find your red streamer"...... they would bring up the red streamer with their cloud and I would staple it on there. They would sit back down and I would say - "find your orange streamer", etc. until the rainbow was complete. It was a great craft activity that incorporated the holiday and also helped them work on color recognition!

Homemade Leprachaun Trap

I have been making "leprechaun traps" with my kids every year. This year, my kids are getting older and so I didn't know if they would want to do one. To my surprise, I went down to the art table the other night and they were both working on their traps! I was so thrilled! I love it when they are creative and to know that all these years, making the traps with them, they still wanted to do them. Check out what my son made!!!!!

We are all hoping that this will be the year that we catch these little guys!!!!

Here is my daughter's trap:

It consisted of two "rooms" that were connected by a tunnel.

She made a table and chairs out of paper and gave them some mini marshmallows and Lucky Charms to eat.

The second room consisted of a bathroom and a bed.
